The Dog Days Open Stage is Jazzmania Live's August show at The Cascades at Stone Manse — the waterfall pavilion inside Allegheny County's South Park. The name is the literal one: 'dog days' is the traditional name for the hottest stretch of the Northern Hemisphere summer, mid-July through mid-August, when the Sirius star (the dog star) rises with the sun. August 2 lands right in the middle of that stretch.
It's the right time to be at a waterfall pavilion. The Cascades stays cooler than the open lawn thanks to the shade and the moving water, and an outdoor jazz show is one of the better ways to spend a hot August evening in Pittsburgh. Jazzmania holds the rhythm section and core lineup, with room for guest players, sit-in artists, and developing musicians from across the Pittsburgh jazz community.
Free admission, no tickets required. Bring a folding chair, a blanket, snacks, the kids, and water. The show runs 6:00 – 8:00 PM and streams live and free on The Encore. If you'd like to sit in, contact us in advance through the website.
